Papillon - ST (CREP09) LP
£12.00 / On Sale
Release Date: 2nd December 2013
Debut album from Papillon, a new project by Discrepant head honcho, Gonçalo F Cardoso and with guest appearances by Cédric Stevens and Kink Gong.
Taking inspiration from the 1969 French adventure book of the same name, Papillon explores the sonic interzones between dream and nightmare. Through the use of augmented field recordings, Papillon uses the ‘exotic’ jungle as the starting point to develop a dense and evocative sound where ethnic recordings, impromptu synth jams, modular synthesis and foley art effects come together to create a quasi-mystical crackpot mix of esoteric visions, near death experiences, shamanism, fever deliriums and lucid dreaming.
The compositions were constructed from raw and digitally treated analogue modulators by Cédric Stevens, edited acoustic recordings by Laurent Jeanneau aka Kink Gong, lo-fi synthesizers by Gonçalo F Cardoso as well as guest drums by David Naan.

''The embrace of dream logic on the album, in any case, is made all the more fruitful by Papillon's appealing phonographic mix of field recording, musical performance, and sonic phantasm, a mix that lends itself especially well to the realisation of the kind of fantastical and weird adventurism clearly at the heart of the project.'' "A strangely compelling adventure into aural experimentation." Norman records
''Every aspect of the recording is meant to suggest a facet of the book; this would be a lovely soundtrack to reading.'' A Closer Listen
